NAZ CALABRO DESIGNS
My journey here has been a wild ride that’s taken me around the world (more times than once!) and back again. A free spirit and creative from birth, my childhood was filled with time in Iran, London, the South of France, and finally onto the United States, landing in California.
Coming of age in San Francisco, my days were spent working at luxury boutiques such as Chanel by day and hobnobbing with the who’s who at night during my stints at various hospitality hot spots and nightclubs.
Looking back, it’s clear I was drawn to interesting people, unique experiences, and luxury design. From the time I was young, I’ve embodied a fun, you-only-live-once mentality. Someone who values family and friendship and adventure, above all else, always with a smile on my face.
While my life was filled with beautiful designs, it wasn’t until January 2020, when I was asked to design two looks for the Persian New Year Festival that my love for design really took off. It was in the midst of the Covid shut down that I found myself needing to exercise my creativity. At first, it started as a way to keep myself busy. But as time went on, I began to lean into the creative process and found it not only energized me but it fulfilled a part of me that I hadn’t known existed.
And it all started with The Gelato Dress. I was drawn to the bright, fun colors and the relaxed, comfortable feel of the fabric. We were all spending more time at home and I refused to be that person who sat around in sweats. Plus, I have an awkward body so anytime I would buy clothes, I would always end up altering them to fit comfortably. I ended up tweaking the dress until I decided on the side ribbons, which allow you to wear it long or short. The beginning of Naz Calabro Designs began with a dress that you can feel just as comfortable and sexy wearing around the house as you can out to dinner. And that’s how all of my pieces are created. For the modern woman who wants to look and feel her best no matter where her day takes her.
My inspiration for creating my designs and this platform is to have a place for all of my global travels and ideas to live. The experience of walking back down memory lane has been nostalgic and self-gratifying for me. By revisiting the different chapters and locations of my life, each has brought a unique flair and perspective to my designs. It has fueled my drive to keep creating new ideas and memories but now with my wonderful, loving, supportive husband by my side. I can’t wait to see where this new journey takes me.
